Mindful Movement Essentials: Lesson 3
How We Breathe
What's breath and breathing have to do with movement?
We are one body and how one body part moves or doesn't move has a direct impact on the rest of our body!
When our rib cage doesn't move, other parts of our body have to move extra to get the job done, this isn't necessarily something that will cause problems, but it might. Getting those awesome smaller muscles to move brings so much balance and benefit to the rest of the body!
Be patient with those muscles too. It's common for our ribcage to be so unused to moving that when we ask it to move, it can feel stuck and unable. Change can and will happen if you stick with it little bits at a time. Don't try and walk around all day obsessing over your breath and how you breath. I just encourage you to spend a few minutes here and there a few times a week slowing down, checking in, and practicing a new pattern!
Mindful Movement Essentials: Lesson 3
Exercise Class
This is where we get to practice moving those awesome tiny muscles!
Like I said before, this is an exercise. Something you can pick up and then put down. Please don't obsess over how you breath in everyday life! This process is about adding joy not stress to your life!
Practicing little bits at a time might not feel very impactful, but it can make huge shifts, a few minutes a day a few times a week can really wake up those intercostal (rib) muscles to be more active participates and give a break to other parts of your body!
