Is Your Vagina Loose?

We hear this term a lot, 'loose' to describe the pelvic floor, especially after women have babies. Vaginas and our pelvic floors are often likened to a rubber band, and once it looses its elasticity - game over. Maybe, just maybe you can regain a little bit of 'tightness' by doing thousands of kegels a day (hang in there, I'll for sure chat about kegels in an other post!).

What does 'loose' mean when it comes to talking about pelvic floors? Often, it is referring to several symptoms -...

The Program I Used to Heal My Diastasis Recti and Pelvic Organ Prolapse

When my youngest son was born, I had just had 4 babies in 5 years. The last two babies were 9 pounds each. I'm about 5'2" tall. Immediately after giving birth to number four, I experienced heaviness in my pelvic floor. My midwife told me to wait it out, my body was still healing and it was normal. But deep down I knew what I was feeling wasn't normal. I had done this before and not experienced this heaviness. The best way to describe it is that it felt like I was sitting on a tennis ball...

Are Your Hamstrings Really Tight?

blog muscle length tutorial Aug 03, 2018

I'm a body movement teacher and one of the things I do is pay quite a bit of attention to the way people talk about their bodies. "I have tight hamstrings" "My neck and shoulders are always really tight" or "My calf muscles are so short!". We make pretty definitive statements about our body and musculature. I'd like to discuss the idea of 'tight' muscles.

We have this idea that our muscles have a certain amount of length to them, a specific amount of give, and when that length is reached, the...

Tips for Hiking with Children

blog kids motherhood movement Jun 04, 2018

I'm a mom to a million children. Ok, actually 4 boys, but that feels like a million sometimes. I feel like I have gotten quite a bit of practice with hiking with groups of children. These are few things I've learned, some of them the hard way, but I've been willing to take one for the team. You're welcome.

It's spring and we're back in the swing of getting outside more consistently and for longer distances. Our current crew includes 4 kids, ages 3-9 years old. So, here's a few tips for...

Minimalist Shoes... Are They That Great?

blog minimalist shoes Apr 06, 2018

"Don't your feet hurt in those?" and "Can't you feel everything in those shoes, like all the rocks and sticks and all?" or some such variation is the most common question I get when I wear my weird Vibram five finger shoes.

Funny Story. I always thought that the Vibram five finger shoes looked SO weird and that I would NEVER wear them... Ha ha! The universe has a funny way about bringing things back around. Never say never my friends.....

Anyway, these shoes always get me noticed and...

Ya'll, I did a minimalist shoe DIY thing....

I'm a DIY'er. I love saving money, repurposing material, and using my hands to create something. I also have 4 growing boys to keep in shoes. This was the starting point to my attempt at making our own minimalist shoes.

Now, there are some AMAZING minimalist shoe companies out there that I fully support, Soft Star Shoes, being one of them. But again, with these healthy amazing kiddo's growing non-stop - my budget asked that I get a little bit creative.

So, I've had this idea in the back...

When Hope is Rebellious - How Movement Can Change the World

I believe the world is full of world changers, right in this moment. I see that our culture and world is full of pain, part of that being physical pain. I also know, from personal experience, that pain causes us to disassociate; from specific body parts, from the feeling of pain and discomfort, from others. Chronic pain is even worse, because then you add in a healthy dose of hopelessness and medications with nasty side effects. When I came to find movement as a form of healing and, one might...

Everybody Get's a Calf Stretch!

 One of my favorites!

I recommend this for almost all of my clients, first thing. It is not only a foot, ankle and calf stretch, but it influences the whole body in such a positive way.

Neck or shoulder tension? Do a calf stretch. Low back pain? Calf Stretch!

Sometimes I feel like Oprah.

Why do I love it so much? In our culture and society, we live in a way that shortens our entire back line, from how we sit and rest to what shoes we wear on our feet, our entire environment...

Geeking out over the Psoas, and a Psoas Release

The psoas (pronounced so-az) is an amazing muscle. And we have two of them! They are attached to either side of the lumbar spine, run over the pelvis and the ball and socket joint of the hips and connects at the femur bone. This is a deep muscle that cannot be accessed in many places, which at times makes it seem a little magical and mystical.

The psoas muscle does so much for us, including housing major nerves and being the only muscle to connect the spine to the legs.

While this beautiful...
